Grant Ipsen
Appointed 4/15/2004 by Governor Dirk Kempthorne to a term expiring 7/1/2005. Reappointed on 7/1/2005 by Governor Kempthorne to a term expiring 7/1/2009.
Grant is a third generation Idahoan born and raised on a farm in Malad, Idaho. He and Edna (Eddie) Hughes were married in 1956. They are the parents of five children (four living) and ten grandchildren. Grant and Eddie have lived in the Treasure Valley since 1960.
While in the military service, Grant studied accounting with the U.S. Armed Forces Institute. He received a B.A. from Brigham Young University with a major in accounting and minors in math, language and economics. Grant served on the Board of Directors of the BYU Alumni Association from 1988-1992, and served as a Mentor for college students for many years.
Grant began his professional life with United States Steel and later accepted employment with a national CPA firm in auditing and tax preparation and became a Certified Public Accountant. During his insurance career with Mutual of New York (MONY), he earned designations as a cathy.hartered Life Underwriter and as a cathy.hartered Financial Consultant and earned many industry awards. He was a guest speaker at many local and national industry meetings. he is a member of MONY Hall of Fame and was chosen by the Boise Association of Life Underwriters as "Agent of the Year."
Grant was elected as an Idaho State Senator in 1992 and served for 10 years. During his service in the Idaho State Senate, he served as Chairman of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee for eight years, member of the Local Government and Taxation committee and Commerce and Business Committee. During his Senate service, he authored, sponsored or co-sponsored 188 pieces of legislation of which 180 are now law. He served on various legislative and gubernatorial committees and is currently serving as a Commissioner with the Idaho Commission on Aging.
